Heritage Hill Elementary School

Heritage Hill Elementary School

This time, just two days before Ramadan, I had the pleasure of visiting Heritage Hill Elementary School at 380 Heritage Drive, Sherwood Park. I wrote the names of 25 students in a class with no Arab students. The presentation was a delightful surprise for them, as it was their first exposure to Arabic calligraphy. I could see their admiration and enthusiasm for the art form. A heartfelt thank you to Sister Azra and Ms. Shirl for making this experience possible.

My Trip to Kalkari

My Trip to Kalkari

My Trip to Kalkari I recently visited the Islamic school at Akram Juma Mosque for a two-day program. On the first day, I delivered a lecture to 60 teachers, 30 of whom were first-time attendees. Half of the group participated in person. The second day was dedicated to the students. My lecture focused on the impact of Arabic calligraphy on the learner’s personality, highlighting its ability to enhance motivation and harmonize sensory and cognitive perception. The school has an impressive enrollment of 1,000 students, spanning all levels. I was deeply impressed by the excellent organization and the mutual respect between the teaching staff and students. I also admired the school director, Mr. Rami Al-Hamalawy, whose presence exudes prestige and dignity. I pray for the continued success of this school in its mission to nurture a generation rooted in sound doctrine and conscious thought, serving as a shield against life’s challenges and temptations.

AKRAM JOMAA ISLAMIC CENTER

Thanks to the kind invitation of Akram Jumaa Islamic School in Calgary, I was delighted to meet the teachers there, especially Mr. Rami El Hamlawy, the school principal, for his generosity and kindness. I spent an unforgettable and enjoyable day with them, full of useful and beneficial information. Thirty teachers participated via an interactive chat, and another 30 attended in person. I rotated among the teachers, helping them write and practice using bamboo. We challenged them to a test at the end to continue their calligraphy instruction using overhead panels, and there was a competition to find out the correct answer. The second day was dedicated to the students. My lecture focused on the impact of Arabic calligraphy on the learner's personality, highlighting its ability to enhance motivation and harmonize sensory and cognitive perception. The school has 1,000 students, covering all grade levels. I was impressed by the excellent organization and mutual respect between the faculty and students. I pray that this school will continue its journey toward building a generation with strong faith and conscious thought, a fortress against life's challenges and temptations.
